Judge Gilbert A. Martinez “Semper Fi” Community Service Scholarship
The “Semper Fi” Community Service Scholarship will recognize a student who has an interest in and commitment to community service—in particular service to communities of color and/or low income communities. Candidates for the award will demonstrate this through course work, clinical participation, extracurricular activities, volunteer participation and/or previous experience. Preference may be given to those who are first generation college graduates and/or those who are members of the communities served. Consideration may also include demonstrated financial need. This is directed to those “always loyal to the community.” This stems from Judge Martinez’s own service in the U.S. Marine Corps (including a tour of duty in Vietnam-1966), and his later involvement in community service.
