Shima Baradaran, Associate Professor at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, was interviewed by NPR’s Morning Edition for a July 9, 2015 story about New York City’s plan to end cash bail for low-level defendants.
The “supervised release” initiative will allow about 3,000 eligible defendants to remain at home with their families and continue working while they await trial.
According to a press release, the initiative is designed to cut unnecessary pretrial detention and reduce reliance on money bail.
