University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law Professor Paul G. Cassell published an op-ed online in the Washington Post addressing the sentencing of former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner, who recently was ordered to serve just six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman near a house party.
“Something is amiss in California when conviction for such a terrible crime can lead to such a shockingly light sentence,” Cassell wrote.
