Rising 3Ls: Important Dates for Federal Judicial Clerkships

The Online System for Clerkship Application and Review (OSCAR) will be available to rising 3L students on Friday, May 21.  Starting that day, students interested in federal judicial clerkships may use the OSCAR website to research judges and apply:  https://oscar.uscourts.gov/index.php?_subtab=appreg.

Note the following critical application dates for federal judges following the 2010 Federal Law Clerk Hiring Plan:

       10:00 am (EDT) Tuesday, September 7, 2010 – first date and time when judges may contact applicants to schedule interviews.  OSCAR will release the electronic applications for the 2011 law school graduates on this date;

       10:00 am (EDT) Friday, September 10, 2010 – first date and time when interviews may be held and offers made;

       8:00 am (EDT) Thursday, September 16, 2010 – first date offers may be made.

Please remember that not all federal judges follow the Federal Law Clerk Hiring Plan.  After logging into OSCAR, students can identify whether the judges that they are interested in applying for clerkships with participate in this plan.  In addition, the Judicial Clerkship database (http://www.law2.byu.edu/career_services/government_publicservice/judicial_clerkships/rocky.php)should  (password found in the PDO folder on the shared drive) should identify whether or not a particular federal judge accepts applications for clerkships through OSCAR.
