Center for Innovation in Legal Education

About the Center for Innovation in Legal Education

Legal education is at a crossroads. The twin pressures of escalating costs and declining legal employment have been added to long-standing critiques of legal pedagogy, and as a consequence there is a growing consensus that we as legal educators must do things differently than we have in the past. The Center for Innovation in Legal Education at the S.J. Quinney College of Law was created to address the need for change and to position the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the forefront of that change. In the short time it has been in existence, CILE has implemented new approaches that have garnered national attention, including the counterterrorism simulation and the Contracts blended learning project. Ambitious plans for the future include re-envisioning the first year curriculum through the project and conducting quantitative research to measure the effectiveness of our teaching and learning innovations.
