Get involved
The Pro Bono Initiative would not be possible without professional volunteers. We are always looking for people who are interested in volunteering as attorney supervisors or interpreters.
If you are interested in becoming a PBI volunteer, please fill out this form or email PBI Director Caisa Royer with any questions.
FAQs
As a program at SJ Quinney College of Law, PBI acts as a training ground for volunteer law students. In fact, law students do the majority of the work at a PBI site. Students conduct the initial intake with clients and then collaborate with supervising attorneys to give clients the best advice. Clients receive free 30-minute consultations, wherein the goal is to help the client reach the next stage of the legal process—whether that's through quickly drafting a letter, going over forms, or making appropriate referrals.
Depending on the site, attorneys may not ever meet with clients and work only with students. Volunteering is very social, with lots of time chatting with other professionals and opportunities to mentor students.
