Plan Ahead for Out of State Travel Related to Jobseeking

If you get a phone interview with your dream government employer –especially for an attorney position—carefully consider whether you can afford to offer to travel to the interview in person.  In his opinion, this could well put a candidate above the others both in terms of being memorable and showing dedication to that particular agency.  This can be financially challenging, however.  One thing that students can do to prepare for this possibility (in addition to trying to save student loan money) is to make sure that if intend to job seek out of state, you use a credit card that earns you airline miles somehow (and pay it off each month).  That way, you might have a means to pay for at least one very important flight.
