Minority Bar Honors College of Law Alums

On September 27, the Utah Minority Bar Association (UMBA) honored members of the legal profession and community at a lu’au-themed scholarship and awards dinner held at the Gallivan Plaza.

Holland & Hart was honored as UMBA’s Law Firm of the Year.

Three College of Law graduates were also honored.

 Kent Hart received the Jimi Mitsunaga Excellence in Criminal Law Award for his excellence in the practice of criminal law or pro bono legal services, Phil Uipi was recognized as the UMBA Distinguished Lawyer of the Year for his dedication to the objectives of UMBA and his professional success, and John Baldwin and the Utah State Bar were honored with the UMBA Honoree of the Year award for their continuing support toward the mission of UMBA. 

UMBA also awarded over $43,000 in scholarships to 17 law students from the College of Law and BYU who have demonstrated service and leadership to Utah’s minority community.

Founded in 1991, UMBA is an organization of Utah lawyers committed to promoting diversity and addressing issues that impact racial and ethnic minorities, especially within the legal community.
