Amos N. Guiora, Professor of Law at the S.J. Quinney College of Law, has been invited by the Center for Civic Education and Leadership Development of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Germany to discuss research and developments in the ethical education of Armed Forces on December 1-3, 2009. Guiora (Lieutenant Colonel, retired), who served in the Israel Defense Forces, had command responsibility for the development of an interactive video teaching soldiers appropriate conduct with respect to civilians and has published an article addressing this issue titled “Teaching Morality in Armed Conflict: The Israel Defense Forces Model.”
On December 4, Professor Guiora will be the keynote speaker at the “Towards a Global Legal Counter-Terrorism Model: Transatlantic Perspectives” conference hosted by the Magna Carta Human Rights Institute in Brussels, Belgium. Guiora’s talk is entitled “American Counterterrorism: The Triangle of Detention, Interrogation and Trial.”
