Dryer to Speak at 10th Circuit Bench and Bar Conference

Randy L. Dryer, Visiting Professor of Law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, will speak at the Tenth Circuit Bench & Bar Conference in Colorado Springs, Colorado on August 30, 2013. His          presentation is titled “Tweets, Posts & Pokes: Social Media Ethical Landmines for the Unwary Lawyer.”  Several hundred lawyers and judges from the six states   comprising the Tenth Circuit attend the three-day annual conference, which also features Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.  Conference information is available here.

Professor Dryer, who speaks frequently on the legal aspects of social media, notes that “As more lawyers are using social media for professional purposes, they are often inadvertently running afoul of state ethical rules, most of which were drafted before the advent of the new social networking platforms. This is a potential minefield for lawyers with serious consequences as we have seen several recent suspensions and disbarments from improper use of social media.”
