June 5, 2012— Dean Hiram Chodosh announced today that Big-D Construction, an award-winning commercial construction company, has been selected as the contractor for the S.J. Quinney College of Law’s new 155,000 gross square-foot building.
“We are very excited to partner with Big-D on the College of Law’s new facility, which will transform the way in which architecture supports innovation in legal education,” Chodosh said. “Given Big-D’s demonstrated history of constructing innovative public facilities, including the new Natural History Museum of Utah and the Salt Lake City Public Library, among others, we believe they will be an ideal general contractor as we envision and build a dynamic and flexible facility designed to meet the needs of the next century of legal education.”
Big-D President Rob Moore said, “Over the years, Big-D has had the great fortune to construct many projects on the University of Utah campus. This is an exciting opportunity for the Big-D team to partner with the College of Law and the U to construct an iconic building that will truly be the gateway to the campus. This building will benefit many generations and further establish the SJ Quinney Law School as a hub of legal education.”
Big-D Construction was founded in 1967 in Ogden, Utah. The company currently has regional offices in Ogden, Salt Lake, and Lindon, as well as Pleasanton, CA, Gilbert, AZ, and Jackson Hole, WY.
The new College of law building is tentatively scheduled to break ground in the summer of 2013, and is currently scheduled to open during the 2014-2015 academic year.
