Through the Utah Appellate Clinic, Paul Cassell, Professor of Law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, recently filed a series of briefs in federal courts of appeals, including the First, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Eighth Circuits. The briefs involve the issue of how much restitution child pornography victims should receive. Casell reports that there has been significant media interest in the issue.
Cassell further notes that two of these cases will be argued in the near future, the first on March 23, in Durham, North Carolina before the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and the second on May 3 in New Orleans, before the Fifth Circuit, which will hear the case en banc.
College of Law students Daniel Larsen, Nathan Margoni and Nate Mitchell have worked on the cases with Cassell.
