Alumna in Residence Marquardt to Visit College of Law March 17

Jane Marquardt, the 2009-2010 Alumna in Residence, will visit the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law on Wednesday, March 17.  Marquardt is a 1977 College of Law graduate.

After graduating from the College of Law, Marquardt began her legal career with a poverty law fellowship at Utah Legal Services. She was subsequently in private practice from 1979 to 2007.  In 1982, she began giving seminars for lesbian and gay couples on how to protect their legal rights through the use of powers of attorney, wills and property arrangements. In 1996, she helped organize and present the first training on LGBT issues for all of the judges in the state of Utah.

In 1990, she received a Masters in Taxation degree from the University of San Diego College of Law (where she graduated second in her class).  She and her law partner Doug Fadel were contributing authors to the book Giving, Philanthropy for Everyone.  In addition to her professional work advising clients on charitable giving, she and her partner, Tami, have provided significant financial support to many local charities, including Equality Utah, the Utah AIDs Foundation, the ACLU, the Utah Pride Center, and the Matthew Shepard Scholarship at Weber State University, among others.

Marquardt has also served as the leader of numerous legal and community organizations. She was president or chair of the following entities: Utah Bar Foundation, Estate Planning Section of the Utah State Bar, Alumni Board of Trustees of the S.J. Quinney College of Law, Weber County Bar Association, among others. She has also been the recipient of numerous awards from the legal community.

Having failed at her attempt at retirement, in 2007, Marquardt is now happily back to work in a new career. She is working as Vice Chair of Management & Training Corporation, where she serves on the Board of Directors and oversees the company’s international workforce development.
