Robert W. Adler, Interim Dean and James I. Farr Chair and Distinguished Professor of Law, and James R. Holbrook, Clinical Professor of Law, both at the University of Utah’s S.J. Quinney College of Law, will speak at the Twin Crises in the Law CLE presented by the Utah State Bar and Utah Law Review OnLaw on Friday, September 27, at the Utah Law and Justice Center. CLE information is available here.
Dean Adler is a member of the Paths Going Forward panel where he will discuss how the S.J. Quinney College of Law will continue to address twin crises in the law: underserved middle class clients and underemployed lawyers. Adler notes, “I am thrilled that we have this opportunity to collaborate with so many members of the practicing bar and bench to address these important issues. Our shared goals should be to provide fair and reasonable access to legal services to everyone, while helping new attorneys pursue rewarding and productive careers.” The panel is moderated by former Chief Justice Michael D. Zimmerman and includes Justice Christine M. Durham, Curtis M Jensen, and Brett G. Scharffs.
Holbook is a member of the Professionalism and Economics: Benefit or Burden panel where he will discuss the professional responsibility each lawyer has to make meaningful contributions toward access to justice in the local community. Professor Holbrook notes, “These are timely topics for Bar membership and for the future regulation of the practice of law. As members of our learned profession which has an exclusive license to practice before our courts, we have an obligation to help ensure there is meaningful access to justice for all litigants in Utah.” Judge William B. Bohling will moderate the panel and is joined by other panel members Judge Royal I. Hansen, Linda M. Jones, and Utah State Sen. Stephen H. Urquhart.
