The S. J. Quinney College of Law has been ranked #32 nationally—and #12 among public law schools—in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Law Schools in 2024 ranking, released this morning. This is the college’s highest ranking ever—a five-spot jump from last year’s ranking, and a 11-spot increase over the past two years.

“This reaffirms what the Utah Law community knows well: that our law school is among the best in the nation,” said Dean Elizabeth Kronk Warner. “It also reflects the University of Utah’s support for the college and President Taylor Randall’s inspiring goals for the future of our university.”

The College of Law’s overall ranking was determined by several factors, including some exceptional highlights:

  • #3 for first-time passage of the in-state bar exam.
  • #8 overall (and #4 among public law schools) for lowest student-to-faculty ratio—an indication of the excellent education that our students receive from faculty.
  • #16 overall (and #6 among public schools) in median undergraduate GPA—a reflection of our students’ drive to excel in law school and throughout their careers.
  • #30 (and #15 among public schools) in employment rate within 10 months of graduation, thanks in part to our exceptional career development resources.
  • #12 in Environmental Law, #25 in Criminal Law and Health Law, and a rise in all our specialty program rankings.

“We know that numbers are just one way of measuring our college’s excellence,” said Warner. “While we celebrate these new rankings, we also applaud our faculty, students, staff and alumni for the transformative work they are doing. Each of us has a role in our continued upward trajectory, and we thank the entire Utah Law community for making it a reality.”
