It is governed by a board of directors and guided by a trustees council that includes representatives from 30 law schools, 13 bar associations, and 18 mining and oil and gas associations. The Foundation hosts an annual institute every July that regularly draws 800 or more practicing lawyers to a 2 ½ day legal education program, and it offers a series of special institutes and conferences throughout the year both in the western United States and abroad.

Keiter will serve a one-year term as president, beginning in July 2013.
