Robin Craig, Professor of Law at the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, was interviewed for an October 2 story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the latest chapter in a long-standing dispute between the states of Florida and Georgia over water rights in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River basin.
On Tuesday, Florida Gov. Rick Scott filed for leave with the United States Supreme Court to file an original jurisdiction complaint for equitable apportionment of Chattahoochee River water between the two states in order to preserve Florida’s oyster industry.
Craig said, “Florida definitely has a good argument on the merits that shows the Apalachicola Bay has been measurably damaged by the failure to have a guaranteed flow of water into the Apalachicola River. Especially in times of drought, that flow is damaging a needed Florida industry.”
