Dear alumni and friends,
I’m pleased to announce the summer 2024 issue of Res Gestae! Classes are back in session as of Aug. 19 at Utah Law, and we’re looking forward to a great semester.
The theme for this quarterly issue is transformation. I recently celebrated my first five years as the first woman and first Native American dean of the S.J. Quinney College of Law, and I reflect on the ups and downs of my time here—and my plans for the next five years—in this article.
This issue includes an interview with Larry EchoHawk, who graduated from the College of Law in 1973 and currently serves as special counsel on Native American affairs to Utah Governor Spencer Cox. EchoHawk previously served as the first Native attorney general in Idaho and as assistant secretary of the interior for Indian affairs in the Obama administration.
Finally, I’m excited to see us spotlight Associate Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Reyes Aguilar, who will be retiring in early September after more than 30 years at Utah Law. Aguilar is well-known to many of our alumni, and we will miss working with him (and seeing the words he chooses to represent each graduating class).
I’m excited to be reappointed to my position as dean and to see what we can accomplish over my next five years. Thank you for your support!
Chi Miigwetch (thank you very much),
Elizabeth Kronk Warner
