“Experiential learning helps people learn how to “Experiential learning helps people learn how to present themselves in a work environment and how to communicate with attorneys and judges. These soft skills can’t be learned from doing a reading or writing a paper. You don’t really know what it’s like until you get there and you’re actually doing it.”

Working as an engineer before law school, 3L Jessi Maupin had gotten used to working with her hands, which is why she was so drawn to experiential learning opportunities in law school. A combination of moot court experiences, research opportunities, internships, and more hands-on learning helped her make the most of her time at the S.J. Quinney College of Law.

Check out our Stories to learn more about Jessi.

The S.J. Quinney College of Law is proud to remain a Best Law School, rising six spots to be ranked #37 overall and #17 among public institutions by U.S. News and World Report.

The College of Law’s stellar overall ranking was determined by several factors, including some exceptional highlights:

🔘 #2 nationally for first-time bar passage rate—a position Utah Law occupies alongside Harvard, Yale and Minnesota.

🔘 #2 nationally in lowest student-to-faculty ratio—a reflection of the individualized attention and excellent training our students receive from faculty members.

🔘 #10 among Top 40 law schools for lowest average law school debt among 2021 graduates who had loans—part of our commitment to making legal education affordable and accessible.

🔘 #19 nationally (#11 among public law schools) for percentage of graduates employed within 10 months of graduation, thanks in part to our exceptional career development resources.

🔘 Top 25 nationally for highest undergraduate GPA (25th to 75th percentile)—an indication of our students’ drive to excel in law school and in their careers.

Together with our overall ranking, these metrics are a tremendous accomplishment by our faculty, students, alumni and staff.
