SCHOLARSHIP

At the conclusion of the session, the College will evaluate the outcome and make the appropriate changes to the language associated with the list below. The Alonzo W. Watson, Jr. Scholarship was established to help finance the educational costs of attending law school for deserving students. The selection committee will seek candidates committed to Alonzo Watson's ideals, including social justice, educational opportunity, public policy, and public service.
Benefits
$3,500 cash award for two student recipients applied to fall tuition
Eligibility
This scholarship application is open to current first- or second-year law students.
Application requirements and selection
Applicants must complete the common scholarship application and provide the following:
- a resume
- a written personal statement (no more than 500 words) that addresses the personal qualifications required by the scholarship
- an unofficial College of Law transcript
Additionally, applicants must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and list the University of Utah as the institution to receive the student aid report for the next academic year. Consideration factors include academic accomplishment, demonstrated commitment to public service, strong interest in public policy (which could include the pursuit of a graduate degree in the College of Social and Behavioral Science) and financial need.
Recipients will be chosen by a committee of deans, faculty and a Watson family representative.
