Fall Firm Crawl: Afternoon of Thursday, September 20!

Each Fall semester, the Professional Development Office—in conjunction with the SJQ Young Alumni Association—sponsors an afternoon/early evening Downtown Firm Crawl.  Small groups of students will tour four different law firms (12 firms participate, and students are divided into 3 tracks) and meet with attorneys in private practice. Last year, nearly 100 students attended this event.

What Firms Participate?

PDO is awaiting that information from the YAA.  But each year, a mix of national, regional, and local law firms participate.  Each track of students will get to visit a mix of these types of firms.

Priority will be given to those who have never had the opportunity to attend a fall crawl (specifically 1Ls & new transfer and visiting students).  These students may RSVP beginning today and will have the rest of the week to do so.  To RSVP, click here- https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/embeddedform?formkey=dHlaOUU3VE1nREszREo5S2RHM1pBb1E6MQ

Timing (Mark Your Calendars!):

1.       2:30: Meet in the Gibson “Gibby” Reading Room to receive your group assignment, firm route, and map.  Most of you will also meet up with your “Crawl Monitor”—a 2L or 3L student designated to go on the Crawl with you to help with logistics and facilitate networking.

2.       Each student will be grouped with their peers and a group leader (usually a 2L or 3L).  Your individual group will be randomly assigned to visit 4 different law firms.  Please be aware that PDO will not allow any students to “pick” the firms they visit that evening.  You should realize that you will have many other opportunities this year to network with attorneys from firms of all sizes, through our programming—including Lunches w/ Lawyers, Mock Interviews, weekly panels & the Career Fair.  Many of you will also have additional opportunities to visit the downtown firms throughout your law school career.

3.       2:52: Take the Red Line TRAX downtown from the Stadium stop to the first firm on your assigned crawl route.  This will get you downtown in time—especially if you have to transfer.

4.       3:25-3:30: Arrive in the office of your first assigned firm.  Please do not arrive earlier than 3:25.  Wait in the building lobby if you are way early.

Business or very dressy business casual (no jeans, shorts, summer dresses, flip flops, or risqué clothing).  Err on the side of dressier and conservative.  A suit is fine, a long sleeved shirt and tie is fine.  Dark slacks and a blouse is fine.  Keep in mind you will be walking from firm to firm.  Wear comfortable shoes!  Mainly, I am trying to say, it’s not the best day to try out a new pair of stilettos.  (Dress shoes are great).  Also, it may still be warm.  Keep in mind, many attorneys with whom you will meet will be in suits.
