It’s wonderful to be back in person at the law school. The last year has proven to be challenging—but, in many ways, it has also been rewarding.
The previously named “Downtown CLE Series” has been conducted completely virtually since the pandemic began, and we have been able to reach so many more of you than before when we were doing them in person. I miss seeing my friends at the downtown law firms, but the trade-off is seeing alumni from all over the nation. Thanks for joining us, and if you have any suggestions for topics for future CLEs, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
Another benefit of being back in person: alumni reunions are back! We’re so excited to be planning an alumni weekend, celebration, award ceremony and all-around party together, which will happen May 20 to 22. The weekend will begin with classes taught by the College of Law’s professors (and you won’t be graded!). We’ll host receptions for all the classes—each floor of the law school will host a different decade, with plenty of opportunities for visiting other floors. Saturday will be a family event with a picnic, games, movies for kids and other fun activities. This weekend is for you, and we want to make it as meaningful as possible. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me with your ideas, and please put May 20 on your calendar now for the best alumni reunion we’ve ever had!
This past year also marked the 20th anniversary of the naming gift to the S.J. Quinney College of Law. One of the most striking things about Joe Quinney was his resilience through significant hardships, including war and the Great Depression. Through it all, Joe showed growth and progress.
I’ve seen the same type of resilience here at the law school and among our alumni. We all kept going. Not only did our students attend virtual classes, they also held down jobs, cared for families, home-taught their own children, and still succeeded—as many of you have also done over this last year. We can thank Joe not only for the tremendous gift to the law school that his resilience made possible, but also for the tremendous example he set for us to follow as we meet and conquer the challenges in our lives.
