S.J. Quinney College of Law is committed to promoting environments that are accessible, sustainable, and inclusive for all students in our community. In partnership with the Center for Disability & Access (CDA) and Office of Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Title IX (OEO/AA), our law school's Office of Student Affairs assists with the implementation of accommodations and services. The CDA is the designated office at the University of Utah that evaluates disability documentation, determines eligibility, and implements reasonable accommodations for enrolled students as guided by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and University policy. OEO/AA is a professional resource dedicated to the University of Utah’s commitment to provide a fair and equitable environment for individuals to pursue their academic and professional endeavors and to equally access University programs.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The intake process may take some time so plan ahead. Requesting and receiving documentation from your medical or other provider(s) can also take some time. Once a student has met with an CDA advisor and submitted documentation, applications typically take about one to two weeks to review.
During busier or peak times such as the start of the semester, applications may take three to four weeks to review.
Documentation received is reviewed only by the CDA case management team. Documentation received by CDA is not shared with instructors, professors, or University departments.
Students registered with the Center for Disability & Access have a right to privacy and confidentiality. Details about a student’s condition or disability are not shared with faculty or staff members without a student’s consent. Records in the CDA are kept in a secure University database which is separate from the general student records.
We encourage students to request (or renew) their accommodations as early in the semester as possible. Exam accommodations must be approved by CDA no later than the last day of classes of the semester in which the student is seeking accommodations.
If you need to request a testing accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act, please carefully review the MPRE Test Accommodations for requirements and procedures.
The MPRE advises individuals requesting accommodations to submit their request as far in advance of their desired test administration as possible, and no later than the Recommended Submission Date for that administration.
