CONSUMER FEDERATION OF AMERICA
STUDENT FELLOWSHIP

The Consumer Federation of America (“CFA”) is an association of non-profit consumer organizations headquartered in Washington, D.C. that works to advance the consumer interest through research, advocacy, and education. Nearly 300 non-profit advocacy organizations, cooperatives, and credit unions are members of the federation. CFA is funding a student fellowship at the University of Utah to support the public service work of Professor Christopher Peterson. Supervised by Professor Peterson, the CFA fellow will work to promote the public interest in banking and financial services law. The CFA fellow will play a regular role in Consumer Federation of America activities, including but not limited to: attending meetings by phone or in person; analyzing legislation, caselaw, or rulemakings; conducting empirical research; and, writing blog posts, amicus briefs, press releases, regulatory comment letters, informational materials, op-ed pieces, studies, law review articles, or white papers.

First- and second-year students.

Application Requirements and Selection


Applicants must complete the Off-Cycle Common App and provide the following:

  • a resume
  • a written personal statement (no more than 500 words) that addresses the personal qualifications required by the fellowship
  • an unofficial College of Law transcript
  • writing sample

Recipients will be selected by a committee of deans and faculty.
