About the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic

Students
The University of Utah Low Income Taxpayer Clinic is staffed by law students earning clinical credit.

Faculty
Assistant Clinical Professor Bryant T. Hinckley is the qualified tax expert overseeing all Clinic work.  Prof. Hinckley received his BA in Anthropology, History and Latin American Studies from the University of Utah, Phi Beta Kappa, and his JD from Brigham Young University.  During law school, he developed a love for tax law and completed an internship with the Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Services in Salt Lake City.  Since his graduation, he has worked as an associate attorney at Stuart Wadsworth Hinckley PC handling federal and state tax disputes and general business law matters.  He has also served as a volunteer attorney with Centro Hispano, a Low Income Taxpayer Clinic located in Provo, UT.   Prof. Hinckley teaches the Tax Practice class for clinic students, oversees all legal work, and spearheads the outreach and community education activities of the Clinic

Professor and Clinical Program Director Linda F. Smith serves as Director of the Tax Clinic, overseeing the grant that supports the Clinic.
