The weekend of February 26-27, the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law sent a team to Denver for the Rocky Mountain Super Regional round of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The College of Law was represented by team members Jacqueline Esty, Vivianne Mbaku, Kurt Reber, Jordan Toone and coach Katharine Tyler. (Team member Candace Gibson was unable to attend the competition due to a family emergency.) Of the 25 teams in attendance, the team placed 9th in the overall competition and 5th in the region for their written memorials. Oralists Esty, Reber, and Toone were all recognized for their strong oral advocacy skills; Esty and Toone were awarded best oralist for individual rounds.
The College of Law team faced tough competition from Tulane University, St. Louis University, the University of Arizona, and Oklahoma State University. Three of these four teams advanced to the quarterfinals, and both Tulane University and the University of Arizona advanced to the semi-finals of the competition.
Faculty advisors were Professors Anghie and Guiora. The team would like to thank Professors Brown, George, McCormack, and Smith, and alumni David Irvine and Artemis Vamianakis for their support and advice during preparation for oral arguments.
